Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

Polestar Pilates Australia has a policy that recognises the skills and knowledge that a candidate has gained via other forms of study, formal training, self-tuition, work experience or life experience.  These skills may enable the candidate to gain the Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction qualification without the need to complete the standard training program.

Polestar Pilates Australia will formally recognise a candidate’s existing level of skill and knowledge in the following two ways:

  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
  • Credit transfer

     

    What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
    RPL is an assessment process that assesses the candidate’s current knowledge levels to determine the extent to which the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or partial/total completion of the qualification have been met.

    RPL recognises prior knowledge and experience and measures it against the course in which students are enrolled.  A student possessing some of the skills and knowledge taught in the course may not need to complete all of its units.

    What is Credit Transfer?
    Credit transfer allows students to count successfully completed studies achieved through formal learning institutions towards their current course.  The unit codes must be a direct match with the unit of competency by another RTO for the DC is applied for..

    Evidence of a government recognised qualification or statement of attainment must be shown.

    Who is eligible?
    The criteria for recognising prior learning is strict.  For example, RPL is usually available to those industry professionals who are registered with the Pilates Alliance Australasia for the repertoire and programming units.

    How do I apply for a Credit Transfer?
    Provide certified copies (not originals) of your transcript of achievement relevant to the credit being applied for, along with your enrolment form.

    What documented evidence do I require?
    RPL may be sought if you believe that you have training or experience equivalent to the course content.  Evidence will need to include;

  • Resume which sets out your current and previous work positions and training undertaken
  • References from third parties detailing work or training positions
  • Certified copies of qualifications or training statements
  • Further evidence as requested by the RPL assessor

    What is the RPL application process?
    If you wish to apply for RPL please complete the following steps:

  • Contact Polestar Pilates Australia to request a RPL application form
  • Complete the RPL application form, attaching; details of the units of competency you request RPL for
  • your resume
  • certified copies of relevant qualifications
  • references
  • Send your full application to Polestar Pilates Australia for assessment.  You will be contacted within three weeks by the assessor with a preliminary verdict and/or a request to supply further evidence.
  • Complete any requirements for further evidence and return to Polestar Pilates Australia for further assessment.
  • You will be notified of the results of your RPL assessment and a refund of the amount relevant to the RPL granted will be made.

    Note:  Polestar Pilates Australia will only consider applications for RPL within four weeks of the course commencement.
